[ "Would You Like Some Dead Animal With That?" ]

Well, I'm employed at Wendys. I'll be wearing that lovely outfit costing me 35 bucks, watching DVDs and tolerating the meat. I'll be shamed by all vegans/vegetarians. I'll draw pity from those who expected more from me. It's a start.

He hired me right on the spot, and he was an older man. I just assumed he'd be some stereotypical character you see on "The Simpsons" that works minimum wage. I saw him write the words Hired on my resume as we chatted and my eyes bugged out of my head. He liked my personality and thought I could add something to the place. I'm sort of looking forward to it. Actually, after the interview, I went wondering the mall and browsed, looking at things I couldn't wait to buy with my first paycheck: That's what I do when I browse. Spending money is so fulfilling, so why shoplift and ruin that? The one important thing I want to do is handle the phone bill. My dad is always having trouble with it and money always causes conflict in a marriage. I hear my parents quibble about it almost every morning when they assume I'm asleep. No matter how broke I was in Vancouver, I was always good with my phone bill awhile back when I had such a thing.

This morning, I got a call from a radio station: they want to have one of the actresses from the cabaret and my director suggested me. I went down there and waited. And waited. She was late but was caught up in other things. Finally I was escorted into the studio and did my monologue, offered some bottled water and a moment to prepare myself. I laid my monologue out in front of me, but figured it would throw me off, since I shouldn't need it; I need to go solo and toss aside the training wheels. After doing it twice, she said how great it was then says, "Now come into my office so I can pay you." At first I thought it was wishful thinking that I heard, but I was being paid! I signed a piece of paper and did the handshake thing as she escorted me out and I was elated. I'm so glad I'm in the union!

After I got home, my dad informs me that the radio woman had called me and wants to call her back. Luckily she gave me her card, so I called, twice and only left a message the first time. A couple of hours later, close to 5pm, my dad says that I was suppose to go down back there! Now he tells me! Anyway, I have her e-mail address, so I'll get in touch with her.

I don't want to jinx it, but so far my month is looking good.

So far.
